For my surrealist bust I originally wanted to create a realistic bust with vines and leaves climbing up the entirety of it. I had wanted to do a play on nature and humans destroying it so for my glaze design I was going to pour black glaze over the top to represent an oil spill of sorts. Since my idea of destruction of nature went a little too far when the piece exploded in the kiln, I decided to take a different approach and incorporate other materials. I mounted some of the surviving pieces to a painted wooden board and painted those pieces metallic copper. I believe that color choice made the pieces appear statue-esque. I then attached the moss to incorporate another form of nature to the piece.
